Telstra Weapon

There has been much ado by the Howard Government in relation to the sell off of the remaining majority portion of Telstra. The need to do this has been touted as necessary to allow Telstra to become competitive in the market place. What market place? The market place of corporate agenda and profit.

The reality is that Telstra some years back, with much fanfare and acclaim, told us all about how the last remote telephone had been installed in a very distant geographical point of
Australia. Basically the last citizens to be serviced by Telstra (Telecom) were now just that, albeit, it was a public telephone booth.

What the bureaucrats are not telling you is that communication technology has moved ahead so far that Telstra has now upon it the obligation to provide the public of
Australia modern services and those services are Internet accessibility. This service is one that the Government has no intention of providing to the country/rural folk of this nation and the only way they are able to wash their hands of this essential service, is to sell Telstra into privatisation 100%. By doing this they achieve a number of things that suit their and their corporate masters agendas.
