Who Are the Aussie Helpers?

Brian and Nerida Egan (pictured) established Aussie Helpers on 21 May 2002 to help fight poverty and lift the spirits of those severely affected by drought in the outback. From what they saw around them and what they heard from people in the bush, Brian and Nerida felt that no organisation was doing anything significant to help families suffering the full effects of the worst drought in living history.

Brian, as a veteran of the Indonesian Confrontation and the Vietnam War in the 1960s who lost his own farm in the 1990s from a combination of drought and personal depression, is no stranger to hard times.

Aussie Helpers have some 20 volunteers and mainly work via the "Bush Telegraph" to find farming families who are in desperate need of assistance. Aussie Helpers work around three words "care, share, respect" which simply means that Aussie Helpers care about people in need and will share whatever assistance they have available free of charge and will give the recipients the utmost respect and confidentiality.

Aussie Helpers raises all its own funding and is not aligned to any other charity or religious association. Unlike government funded organisations, Aussie Helpers are all unpaid volunteers making a real difference to the lives of real people.

FIRE - FLOOD - GOVERNMENT

Bushfire fighting CFA Captain Ralph Barraclough (pictured), of Licola in Victoria, sat in his Land Rover watching his things bob away in a metre high torrent of sludge.

It was bleak for a Saturday night, sitting powerless on a road above as most of his home churned its way downstream.

Recent intense bushfires removed ground cover that would have prevented the flashflood.

He told me he was angry because this could have been prevented if the government had listened to him.

It is expensive to insure against flood and he has no insurance.

He says he will be getting handouts from the Victorian Government, after its inaction ironically brought his woes.

The problem was foreseeable and preventable if the CFA and national parks used standard procedure to manage bushfires.

The current epidemic of mega fires is caused by a lack of science in their current practices.

Productive Farm Now Greenie Waist Land

Yanga Station is an 80,000 hectare - 38 million dollar - tax payer funded Debus/Carr/Iemma legacy.

This station, which was one of the most productive western NSW stock and cropping properties bought by NSW NPWS with our tax dollars in times when Health, Police and Education are starved of funding.

The Black family put this property on the market believing they were selling it to a buyer that would not split up this historic property, as opposed to private purchasers. Regardless of the fact they were paid handsomely for the property by adopting good business principals, the people of NSW under Bob (DEVIOUS) Debus stewardship have been robbed, the Black family duped.

Yanga Station located in the Balranald area of NSW, was the largest single rate payer for that shire. Now turned into an asset of the non-rate paying NSW NPWS we see another job producing, produce generating, community supporting business.

Revealed is the depth of deceit and subterfuge that organisations who purport to be the citizen's representation to the environment under the swan song of a Federal aspirant to the Environment portfolio as Minister, Bob Debus, and with Iemma's backing, will stoop to.

As soon as this massive ex-farming station is gazetted - if it has not already been promulgated - as a National Park, they intend to split it up into different lots and sell off thousands of acres in an attempt to find desperate dollars. Most likely to ensure their political superannuation payments are paid up ready for collection when they are booted from office on March the 24th.

Worse, some of this land is intended for auction, but secretly other parts are intended for private negotiated sale.

Privately negotiated!
What the hell does that mean?
I seem to remember only a few days ago where the Macquarie Bank was reported as going into farm acquisitions for projected business ventures, with the intention of buying up large farming blocks from Queensland to the Victorian border, not a financial supporter one would expect an investment bank to be, but as a primary producer. Is there a link with such a touted sale here?

ICAC need to be brought into this matter forthwith and an injunction brought into force ceasing all and any action until an in-depth inquiry is concluded as to;

  • Where the money came from to purchase this property?
  • What the negotiations were surrounding this purchase?
  • What study was conducted re the impact upon the returns from a national park as opposed to closing down such a viable vibrant business?
  • What is the impact upon surrounding communities and wider area?
  • What study was concluded into the ongoing cost to the tax-payer of the additional massive million dollar expense for infrastructure upgrades to achieve this grandiose scheme?
  • Was the purchase of this property in fact an excessive waste of tax-payers money while the rest of the NSW infrastructure is denied funding?
  • Was poor governance conducted by those entrusted to govern, or worse?
  • Who, or what are the intended private purchasers that are going to negotiate?
The above questions and much more need to be asked and answered, to the satisfaction of the people's fair expectations before the injunction can be lifted.

Peter Debnam & Andrew Stoner must come forward on this issue and clearly identify their position yesterday.

How much longer are we the public going to allow these cretins to starve our essential services of funds to claim the minority green vote balancing on mythological science?

If the State of NSW is a corporation with an ACN number, how come ASIC has not charged the directors for trading whilst insolvent with no hope of recovery in their term - and for these inept people, in any term.

This NSW Labor government has bankrupted us the people and they are bankrupt morally as a government, yet Iemma still allocates millions of dollars from an empty vault then millions of monopoly money is spent on a single boat for the police with nary a thought.

Not a thought for sick kids, limited doctors and nurses, suicidal farmers from unworkable legislation, fishermen's businesses destroyed, residents collapsing into flawed tunnels, public streets diverted for profits. The Iemma Cabal's list just goes on to infinity, a maelstrom of incompetence.

This Labor government represents the fifth column within NSW acting with impunity and obviously intend to do so until the last minute of their DICTATORIAL DESPOTIC RULE.

  • Energy Giants Merg?

The possible merger of the two energy giants, Origin Energy and AGL, is not in the interests of electricity consumers and must be rejected by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The electricity industry was dis-aggregated in the late 1980's and 90's in the name of competition and saw the formation of the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Vertical integration - generators owning distribution/retail and vice-versa, was considered anti-competitive and thus not permitted in the initial breakup of the industry. There was also concern at the time that there were insufficient players in the various market segments to provide the level of competition necessary to protect consumers.

Since formation of the NEM we have seen a re-consolidation of the industry and the corruption of the 'no vertical integration' principle with generators owning retailers and vice-versa, whilst the ACCC has stood idly by.

Whilst mergers and acquisitions within the market may be strategically desirable for the companies concerned - and provide significant benefits to the corporate high flyers - they have the potential to significantly reduce market competitiveness and are not in the interests of consumers.

In the event that the ACCC allow the Origin - AGL merger to proceed then they will have done all electricity consumers a significant dis-service.
